Wonderful course, wonderful city, but impacted by union strikes

Royaume-Uni, Licence
Géographie, 2020
Évaluation globale
My time studying Geography at Newcastle University has given me an incredibly broad and in-depth education on the world that surrounds us, with a focus on human geography and global interconnectedness. Lecturers and teaching fellows in the human geography department have been wonderful, giving informative lectures and seminars as well as providing one-to-one meetings for further academic and pastoral help. Newcastle is a vibrant and accessible city with lots to offer - the university campus sit right in the city centre giving you every opportunity to explore your surroundings. Although I have had a generally positive experience at Newcastle University, I lost a number of weeks of study to union strikes and to the coronavirus pandemic. I believe that the union strikes continued for an incredibly long period of time due to the Vice Chancellors failure to meet the needs of staff and treat them with the respect they deserve, showing poor management at the highest level. Although the pandemic has been unruly and unprecedented for everyone, I also believe that  such a drastic change from participatory to remote studies had an impact on my progress and wellbeing in my final semester. I hope that more inclusive yet appropriate measures have been put in place as we begin to learn more about the nature of coronavirus and how it spreads.

Not really, I enjoyed learning many things when I got there, and for the international students they have a group of people who helps you to settle down when you arrive

Great student experience

Gestion Financière, 2017
Évaluation globale
My course was Quantitative Finance and Risk Management which was more of the technical side of finance. Perfect for those with very strong numerical abilities wanting to apply these skills into the financial industry. The course was well taught with a variety of resources available for students such as recapped lectures, online notes and further reading material. The lecturers were very approachable and assist as much as they are allowed to.

The careers service is not bad, there are a lot of services offered to help students practice application processes such as mock interviews and assessment centres. They also review CVs and application answers well.

The student life is incredible, extremely cheap in Newcastle - can often find housing for £70 a week and the night-life is vibrant and extremely fun. Allows you to have a great balance between studying.
