ACTUALLY THE FIRST TIME I STUDIED IN PORTSMOUTH I HAD COME WITH A ERASMUS GRANT, IN 1999. I STAYED IN A HALL OF RESIDENCE CALLED BURREL HOUSE, BEHIND THE NOTORIOUS REES HALL. THE FACILITIES AND FOOD PROVIDED WERE QUITE GOOD, THOUGH I PREFER LIVING INDEPENDENTLY IN A HOUSE RATHER THAN BEING ATTACHED TO A TIMETIBLE INA HALL OF RESIDENCE

From my point of view, there is nothing to compare with this type of living. First you are then really living in a country, you have to take care of things: bills, rent, landlord, plomber etc... Second you have more space and you fill yourself at home, not in a prison, like some campuses are. Third it is more easy to learn from your Roomates when you are sharing the same house. It makes you grow faster.

First Portmouth was a really nice town in front of the sea, very quiet in winter and really nice in spring, where the rent are not that expensive compare to the rest of the UK. There was a lots of opportunities for those who have taken some risks.

The University is great in helping everybody who needs help in finding accommodation. The standard can be average though.

To live out of the campus give the possibility to enjoy the country you live in. On a campus I would have met other french students.

6 or more small flats (about 12m^2) on each floor with only one kitchen for the whole of the appartments. Moreover, it is quite expensive (from £53 to £75 a week). Positive points are that it is very clean and that you can have all facilities on the campus.

It is nicer than living on campus, since it is closer to the city center and you don't have to share the common areas with as many people. The bedrooms are bigger as well.

If I come back, I will chose the same kind of accommodation because it is the most practical. My actual roommates are not French but Spanish, therefore it is a insightful experience.

My University does not propose accommodations so you have to find it yourself.
