I live with a British family. Therefore I have to communicate with them every day. Besides, I work as a volunteer for a local nursery school and all staff and children are local people, so I have to speak to them in English. As well in the university, I have to speak in English with my tutor and international students.

I have lived with several people when I was in Portsmouth. I had overall, during my four years of studies,2 spanish roomates,1 Italian, one English, 3 Germans, 4 French and 1 Chinese. I used to be in European classroom with 20% of Dutch, 20% of English, 20% french, 20% Spanish, 20% Germans.

As a student in an international course, i was surrounded by british/spanish/german/italian/greek students and improved tremendously my language skills, although starting with a pretty good school level already before going to portsmouth

Although I found it quite hard in the beginning, it was also very encouraging. The easier it gets to communicate with others the more enthuastic you are about learning the local language.

there is nothing better to learn foraign langauge than being in the country of the particular one you wanna learn. in deed it helped me improve my language skills

I had already spent a year in Australia before my studies so I was pretty alright. Studying in English improved my language abilities a great deal still.
