I wish I had known...
Yes, that the teachers in engineering/math/physics were horrible. I would not have come there to study. Better to go there on holiday as it is a beautiful place and not study there. There is also no school spirit at all. They really do not care if teachers fail the students as many students just get fed up and transfer to another school. Very high turnover for students for these reasons.

Not recommended. Go to another university and visit Victoria on holiday. Nice place to visit from May to September. From October to April it rains all the time and is cloudy.

Disappointed in UVIC. On the surface, it appears to be a good school. The only ting good about it is the location. You can just visit Victoria on a holiday or vacation during May to September and skip going to school there. That is the best advice.

I wish I had known that there was the opportunity to work as an intern for a Canadian company during summer break. I would have loved to do it.

take as many courses and participate in as many activities as you can since it gives you the chance to get to know the country, the people, and their culture.

I consider that if somebody has the possibility to work or study abroad has to do it. One can travel anywhere of Canada and realize how incredible is this country.

BCom sucks

Overall
Too many people I know have been fucked over by advisors giving them the wrong information or by the school suddenly changing what they say (what courses will be offered and when, etc). Especially in the business program, administration and advisors have no idea what they are doing and can't keep up with the requirements for students pursing their CPA designation (despite promoting this path). I've personally received the wrong advice about a course, resulting in having to take it during another semester through another institution (which is expensive and inconvenient). The Bcom program also has a lot of extra bullshit requirements that they claim help students, but are really getting in the way of academics. I've had experiences where we are told that an extra activity will be for grades, and then all of a sudden it no longer counts towards our degree. This especially sucks for students who put the time and effort into completing what the school SAYS will be for grades, and tries to balance it with their other commitments. As a result, students who don't try to balance all of the "required" activities end up better off.  I believe that some of the profs and staff actually care about what they are doing, they are just working within a shitty system.

It is a great place to live: people are very open and teachers very close to students.

It was a great experience at all levels: as far as english is concerned, but also for my studies in the MBA program and for the beauty of the landscapes and most of all the diversity and kindness of people there.
