A comprehensive liberal arts university located in northwest Washington state, Western University is situated between the North Cascades National Park and the San Juan islands. It is a state-funded, four-year institution which operates during the full academic year with sessions in the summer.
The University maintains 80 permanent buildings on a 195-square acre campus, plus 954 acres of off-campus facility at Shanon Point MArine Center in Anacortes and an 11 acre facility at Lake Whatcom. From its first class of 88 students in 1899, WWU has grown to be the third-largest University in the state with 11,708 students from 40 different countries.
