I didn't know that much about poland before my stay there but it was not a problem. Maybe to know some polish it would help in the begining.

Visit Gdansk in the north - very beautiful in the spring/summer. Take warm clothes and enjoy skying and snwoboarding. Visit places around, such as slovakian mountains, prague, etc. Be careful with the thieves in the street, and be careful with the taxi prices, taxi drivers usually ask too much money to foreigners.

Studying at university

Overall
University of Economics offers a lots of courses, you can choose managment, law, finance, analysis of economics, accounting. There are many courses also for foreigners. During your studies you have to choose 2 languages to study but it later opens door during your career in companies as they want people who speaks more than one language (English usually). I recommend this university you can study and have a lot of fun.
