I tried my best to spend as little as possible as I had a limited budget. But Paris is just as expensive as New York City, where I'm from, and it was difficult because I wasn't able to have a job. So I had to stretch out my allowance from my parents.

Avoid eating/drinking out like the plague. Shop at an epicerie and eat at home. If you want to go out to bars/clubs I would suggest buying bottles of red wine (it's cheaper than beer in France) and drinking at home with some pals, then going out.

You have to buy the Carte Orange for transportation in Paris. For traveling inside or outside France, renting a car and splitting the cost (if you are 3-4 people) is much cheaper than taking the train. We also used to buy wine and drink it before going to clubs, which saved us a lot of money, since drinks in clubs were very expensive.

Be aware of the taxes. If you intend to have a TV or rent a space for over 1 yr; there are taxes assessed to these. Also medical expenses are of prime importance.

For housing, I live in a super cheap chambre de bonne which is cheaper than the places my friends are renting out for college back home in Orlando, Florida. Travel is cheaper because I use Ryanair in Europe.

Get the CAF to save money on rent! You have to apply for it through the French government, not AUP.
