Simply, my home country Tajikistan is located in central Asia, a post-soviet country. Hungary, by contrast, is a new member of EU, and the prices have risen visbly over recent time. Services cost more, and in general standard of living is higher in Hangary than in Tajikistan

not really; although make sure you follow all the rules in subway stations (buy new tickets when changing the lines). I did not know that and was fined when I first arrived in Budapest.

Because Budapest is a much more expensive than any city in Romania. But then the stipend I got from CEU was much more than any salary in Romania.

No financial suprises. A cost-saving tip however would be: don't live in the dorm (on campus). It's much cheaper to rent a flat in the city and you are your own boss.

At home I did not pay rental fee. Food is more expensive in Budapest. I did not have that much nightlife in Baku. There is no "monthly pass" system in Baku you pay on the spot, therefore more on travel.

Yeap, validate public transportation tickets whenever u get on a bus/metro, otherwise they'll definitely screw u!
