Overall

I wish I had known...
I wish I would have known more about the style of dress. It is more elegant than where I am from and be sure to have comfortable shoes to walk around in.

All I can reccommend is try to involve yourself with native people instead of only people that speak your language. You will learn the language much faster that way as well as gain friendships. Don't be shy, just practice every chance you get talking to anyone.
