You have to find time to take advantage of the possibility of travels (especially at week ends), knowing people, culture and language and having fun! It doesn't mean to forget the university, but there's time for everything...

Make archives and libraries more accessible for international students. Make the university archives more accessible in general - when I was there, these archives were open for perhaps 3 hours per day, and nothing was particularly well-indexed. The staff at the university archives were also profoundly unhelpful.

If you are going to be using archival materials, be sure to have a letter (or letters) of introduction sent beforehand, and bring copies of the letters and your passport to the archives before starting out.
