As the exchange semester took place in France it's really necessary to speak the country's language to get into contact with local people and the local authorities. At the university there weren't hardly any problems to follow the courses and there were a lot of international students, so if you wanted you could also speek English with them. Overall my french language skills had improved and got more fluent.

Speaking the language everyday in the host country is much more efficient than learning it during university classes. It is the only way to progress after you reach a certain level

Since I never took any class in English in my life, it was quite hard at the beginning. I got used to it.
