Some great cafe's near the university, and going out is very cheap. A big minus is that Ahmedabad doesn't allow alcohol, so no bars, plenty of coffee shops though.

Enjoy Café Mint right next too Crosswords, they have a free Wlan-connection and a nice chicken potato sallad. Indian food is best at, Mirsh Masala, Upper Crust and Swati. Best restaurant is Le Meridian. And make sure to drunk your cappuchino at Cafe Coffe Day right by the "passport office".

Liqour is not allowed in public places (cafe, bar, etc. no alcohol)foreigners have permission to buy certain amount. But you can find a couple of nice cafes(ex. mocha)
