Some great cafe's near the university, and going out is very cheap. A big minus is that Ahmedabad doesn't allow alcohol, so no bars, plenty of coffee shops though.

Housing
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why?
Next to the study facilites, getting a house on the free market is not common for students, very cheap. On campus security and doctor.

Personal comments
Very cheap for european standards, and has its own mess hall so no need for groceries, but also very dusty and noisy as the campus buildings are not very modern, nor air-conditioned. Also the chefs on the campus don't have a lot of variety in the foods offered. But good bargain for an exchange student.

I wish I had known...
India can be really chaotic, even for someone with prior exchange knowledge of developing countries in Asia. You need to be patient with inefficiency and beggars.

Final comments
Superior students and professors, with plenty of options to travel after the semester with other exchange students. Cheap, but dull campus life. These together, you don't love the campus weeks but when on the road with your buddies or having a good lecture its worth the time.

Academic
Course recommendations
The professors are top notch in every course, and there are several vip-visitors (usually ex-IIMA students) that also give lectures.

It was more towards massive reading and not too much on interaction, you spent alot of time reading between lectures, sometimes unrealistical demands in that area.

If you know English you will do fine in India. Of course local dialects of hindi are a plus, but you really don't need that in most situations.

Personal comments
Eating is very cheap on campus, and getting a hear cut literally cost 1/25th of home country price list. Local airlines are really cheap and fast way to save in overall travel costs.
