I wish I had known...
I was informed quite well before arriving and you should be informed before coming to India because I think it is not a country for everybody as live outside of the campus can be quite hard and "disturbing" for western minds

In my opinion:
I loved it but I'm not sure everybody would.

Personal recommendation
Do not come with wrong expectations, get informed about India, the culture, the people, the problems of the country, the pollution, if you are interested to learn a lot about yourself and life in underdeveloped countries and you do not only want to stay on campus but experience the real life in a very different country than yours than let's go, but if you like it more to hang around in bars, enjoy your clean and organised environment, find your self sense of humor, and all the things same like at home, than you should better stay in Europe because India is really a difference, I loved it

get informed, care a lot about injuries because some small wounds can easily be infected, do not wait with illnesses to go to the hospitals which are really well equipped, get informed about vaccinations before you plan to depart because if you have never been to Asia before it can be that you need about EUR 500,-- just for vaccinations, and do not take Malaria Tablets because South India has a very little risk of Malaria so that the sideeffects of the tablets are more dangerouse than the illness itself which can be cured in India quite well, if you do not wait to long, be careful with feaver, go to the hospital not only if you have serious problems, because also small things can get really serious if you wait too long

Nothing. I had bad surprises but I couldn't have changed anything knowing this before so... better not to know.

The courses level is very good, based on the american model of learning (a lot of cases study and projects): you will learn a lot.
I may be difficult to work with the indians as they are very proud of themselves and of their works but not of your work: you really have to defend your ideas. But it is a good experience and teachers encourage work between Indians and foreign students.

If you want to see something very different : go for it but keep in mind that living there is not always easy (cleaningless, poverty, culture...).

I highly recommend it, but do not go there as if you would go to the USA or to another western country for an exchange. Be ready to accept the different culture you are entering: a different notion of time, of private life are part of it.

I followed my three-month academic exchange with a three-month journey into fantastic India. Enabled me to get a balanced picture of what India is, from one end of the spectrum to the other. A travel agency on campus can arrange for your train tickets. Be aware of the cultural differences before going so you are not disappointed once there. Going to India can be nothing but a deliberate choice.

It´s a good idea to visit the campus at least a week before the term starts, as you might meet some other exchange students and might do a trip together before the term starts.

Don´t waste to much time on studying as long as you do not want to be a finance guru. Stay in touch with the Indian students. Try to find out their way of living and studying.

Inform yourself about everything, you have to adapt to a totally new reality. Information is the most important thing to prevent cultural shock.
