“Good Program - BCCB”
Alvaro P
Germany, Undergraduate
Biochemistry, 2023
Overall
The course is very well structured, the professors are very knowledgeable and have charisma in their lectures. Last year it was a bit disorganized because of the Corona situation, but it was the same everywhere and I think Jacobs handled it quite well.
Another thing I like about Jacobs and this course in particular is that the classes are quite small, the lecture halls are never crowded, and this allows the professors to communicate and relate closely to the students, often getting to know them on a personal level.
We also have lab sessions and seminars that start much earlier compared to my home country. I feel that this allows every biochemistry and cell biology graduate to pursue all of their goals after graduation, i.e. finding a job or going to graduate school.
The last point is that Jacobs University and this particular program, although small and young, is one of the best in Germany and in the world. Graduates of our program have studied at the most prestigious universities and are considered outstanding professionals in their fields.

Academic
Course recommendations
I take courses not only within my major, but also outside of it:like Computer Science, Chemistry and Introduction to Digital Systems. Moreover, there are transdisciplinary courses at IUB that every student needs to take.

if you're prone to stress & depression, or even if you are just sensitive, don't come!
if you still choose to:
make friends with second years, they can provide you with useful information; plan your time ahead; don't do all the readings - set priorities; try to get enough sleep and workout; remember that it's only three years and afterwards you have the possibility to attend a really good university
