Personal recommendation
It is really the right place to meet people from everywhere in the world and to party all the time, but I think the language can be a problem because it's not really the one you learned at home before!

Housing
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why?
I had good contacts there with the other Erasmus-students and the austrian students. I believe that it would have been different in an apartment or in a family. Social contacts are very important to me.

Personal comments
There were a lot of facilities for students (computerrooms, libraries, studentsrestaurant).Only the acces was sometimes hard. I´ve had to wait several times because al computers were taken. I couldn´t find any vegetarian meals in the restaurant.

Food was cheaper than in my home country. My flat was actually pretty expensive (330 €), it was only a room in a commune. Nightlife didn't cost so much, because there were hardly any entrance feesh and alcohol was pretty cheap. I spent more mony to travel than home, because Graz is so well located - I visited Venice, Prague, Budapest, Poland, Croatia, Slovenia and travelled across Austria.

I didn't get a "Bankomat card" from Steiermärkisch (don't know why) just a cash card, which I was able to use only in their automats - and it wasn't easy always to find one.. Get a "train card" from ÖBB and you will get some 50 % off from the ticket prices.

food, generally costs more and then as a foreigner I didn't know where to go to spend less. Housing, in Modena I did not pay for housing, as I got a local grant which used to give me money and house for free. Nightlife was cheaper as you almost do not have to pay for entering disco-pubs, beer is incredibly good and CHEAP and in general we managed on our own for nightlife...

Course recommendations
move very quick and start thinking of them as soon as possible, from your home country possibly. Then, attendance is very important for some courses and teachers give a strong attention to your presence and to your interaction during the course. Be active!

Just.. if you have some essays or kind of "homeworks", do them soon after your lessons and live your Erasmus student life after it.

Every friday there was an Erasmusstammtisch for the Erasmusstudents. That was a good occasion to meet friends. A lot of austrian students were there too. I also frequently visited the latin-american bar Latinos. It has a great atmosfere and some dancingspace. The Kulturhauskeller is the place to be when you really want to dance. It is worth the 25 ATS entrance-fee.The irish pubs are always crowded and they play great music there. In the city-park there is a small cafe. Especially in autumn, when it is still warm it is great to sit on the terrace. The Urbanikeller is also very trendy.
