“European Studies”
Giulio S

Valoración global
The courses provide students with a strong theoretical background about Public Affairs, Governance, International Relations and so forth. Professors come from different backgrounds and are active in several fields at the EU level (some specialise in competition, others in public policies, etc.). By doing an ERASMUS programme in other EU universities, such as those based in Brussels (ULB), Paris (Sciences Po), Berlin (Hertie), one can always improve their practical knowledge and skills.

LUISS has some very good exchange programs in other EU countries with important universities such as Sciences Po
En contra
It provides no job placement and it is unreliable when it comes to guiding students throughout the process of finding an occupation

Durham is cheaper than Rome for housing - as you would expect. I travelled more in Italy than I would in Britain. Bills, however, were much more expensive, especially electricity and the condominio charge (if you have to pay it).

Most Italians bought all their own books - I was one of the few people to use the library (although it was not very user friendly). Ask people in upper years to lend you their books (they're very obliging that way). Internet access at uni was fine, though a turn system was used. Printing was free! If you can avoid it, don't even think about opening a bank account - they charge you for the pleasure. Uni provides emergency medical health insurance for free. Registering with a normal doctor is tricky at first, but it's useful for prescription medicines (which can often be got by paying full commercial price at pharmacies without having a prescription), because it's only €1 with a prescription. The Erasmus grant, and the lack of having to pay tuition fees, and the fact that Ryanair flights are cheaper than GNER trains from Durham to London, meant that my finances were as healthy if not more as they would be at home.

The campus is located in a central area of Rome, teachers are well prepared and qualified and available to satisfy any clarification of the students. There is a stimulating international environment, with a lot of Erasmus students and many classes entirely held in english.

Compared to other universities in Rome, LUISS is a very modern university. I've never had a problem with exams or any technical aspect. The teachers come from different backgrounds and they are very professional.

The accomodation was not offered by the host university but by a seperate organisation - no residency existed. The accomodation was student orientated in terms of facilities and situation. Effort was made to ensure both owners and lodgers were satisfied. Personally, I was close to all ammenities, the university & city centre. The flat was spacious, clean & provided the necessary conveniences.
