I have been learning English for years. I thought that when I went to an English speaking country I would understand many things. However, this did not happen. At first, it was really dissapointing because I could not understand people in the street, but I could understand teachers. So, Ihad to get used to asking for things many times because did not understand what I was being told. Moreover, english people in general did not make any effort to make us understand what they were saying.

At uni the courses were animated with power point presentations, which make things easier for us, international students

My host country was United Kingdom, so I had to speak and in general communicate in English. Some difficulties due to the local accent were overcome as the time was going by.
