To send a message or to make a call was more expensive than in my home country.
Furthermore, i used pre-paid phone as i was supposed to stay only for a year and that's one of the reasons why the bill was higher.
When it comes to traveling, i came from Asia, therefore, it was a lot cheaper to travel around other European countries, other than that, i found many special offers for student and that is why i could travel around in a reasonable price.

Well, the insurance fee is quite high and in Germany, you always have to give tips and that was surprising.
Cost-saving tips.... there are many grocery stores in Munich such as Rewe, Plus, Tengelmann and Lidl. Lidl is the cheapest though sometimes the quality is bit lower.
If you are a student, buy a monthly ticket with which you can use U-Bahn and Bus freely. If you are to travel a lot especially within germany, buy Bahnkarte, this is a card with which people can buy a travel ticket cheaper. You can get additional discount when buying this card if you are a student.

Alojamiento
Tipo de alojamiento: student dormitory
Organizado por: Universidad de intercambio
Si volviera, eligiría: Piso o apartamento
¿Por qué?
Though living in a student dorm is cheaper, the size of the room is too small. Also, sharing one kitchen with eleven other people is sometimes uncomfortable.
Next time, i want to live in a space where it is easy to keep my private life and where i can manage my own stuffs.

Munich university offers many different types of housings to students. In my case, as an exchange student i was to be offered a student dormitory and personally, i'm satisfied with the housing offered my munich university.
The location is near to the city center that it was convenient to go to university or to the city center. From the central station it was only 4 stops.
Furthermore, the surrounding area was clean, peaceful and safe.
I am not sure about the other dorms offered by munich university, but many students seemed to be satisfied with the whole housing system of university.

Si lo hubiera sabido...
yes, i wish someone had told me that german students all leave to go back home in the holidays, making accommodation very empty and lonely. also, the international students societies can be awkward and poorly arranged. just meeting people in bars and sports clubs is better.

I used my English phone when I got there for a few months which was a huge mistake and got a huge bill (German mobile phones aren't very reliable but they are quite cheap so I now have one of those). My accomodation was about 100 pounds per month which was very cheap. Travel is also very inexpensive if you travel in groups (5 people can travel on a Bayern Ticket or Schönes Wockenende Ticket which costs 40DM). I also got a Bahnkarte which cost 135DM for students and makes all train fares half price (this is because I now travel mostly alone as I no longer live in Munich). The U-Bahn is also fairly cheap (about 20DM per month for the Innenstadt in Munich - this also includes busses and trams).

Don't use an English mobile on international roaming if your stay is more than a few weeks.

Studenthouses are lively and rather international while a room far off any Studentwohnheim (as I was) deters you from partying all the time and having long evening chats anytime you feel like.

There're at least 4 large Studenthouses (Studentwohnheim) but also a few others in the Munich area:
Studentenstadt: the largest and oldest in Munich. A huge complex where you feel rather anonymous and caught in the rat race.
Olympiazentrum: a bit like the previous one but with the nice and lively Olympiapark in the proximity.
Kieferngarten: the cosiest and on a human scale but might feel bored there!
Klinikum-großhadern: The most recent and liveliest one in munich. I recommend it.

¿Por qué?
I would choose to live in a different hall of residence (probably Klinikum Großhadern in south Munich) because it was hard to get in contact with other students where I lived (they were all a lot older and even some families were living in my hall).

The hall was called Studentenstadt and it was pretty easy to get about as there was a U-Bahn station there. The halls look quite run down but the rooms themselves are ok if a little small. I've been back since (i.e. in the Summer semester) and the atmosphere is much better there with more things going on. I didn't have a bad time there though, it was just a bit hard to get to know other German students.
