I had an amazing time, I met people from all over the world, and got to know a very welcoming new culture, negative sides were the level of bureaucrazy and the minimum amount of English of the local population..

Study some Turkish before you go, it will be very helpfull in food-ordering and similar situation, after leaving campus you can be sure not many people will be able to understand you when you try to communicate in English. Good Turkish classes are offered in the centre at Active Languages, they can also provide you housing within a family or with other students. If you want to live in campus, you should be aware that strict rules apply (no alcohol, no guests staying over etcetera...), living in a house has both advantages and disadvantages. In Turkey you have the chance to travel a lot, busses are very cheap, and the country is amazingly beautiful, the advanterous people among us, could consider trips to Iran, Syria and the like...

Since ancient times the point where the continent of Europe meets the continent of Asia, Istanbul has been one of the key trading centres of the world. So Turkey is a country of choice for many investors.
Let me try to explain myself. I started my career in the field of metallic and industrial mineral exploration and development after graduating from Middle East Technical University in faculty of Geological Engineering. For the last three years of my nine-year career, I have been working at the Istanbul head office in the field of business development and exploration. I have been a pioneer/self-starter in visiting many countries, observing business areas and different business models in these countries and transforming it into an investment opportunity for the company. I am particularly aware of the developments in mining and construction of many countries and the key players in these sectors. In this way, I think that I have the ability to see the potential both in our country and in close geographies as Asia, Balkans and EMEA region.
When we look at the sectors in Turkey, important improvements can be observed. Turkey is also playing an increasingly important role in the transit of oil and gas supplies. The renewable energy sector has been injected with billions of dollars in recent years by leading Turkish banks and is expected to grow further. Turkey is the largest commercial vehicle and second largest bus manufacturer of Europe and the 16th biggest motor vehicle producer of the world. Oil-gas and agriculture sectors are getting critical over the next ten years.
As we all know, there are many sectors affected by the commercial war between the USA and China. In this competitive environment, quality and trustworthy institutions will be preferred. For these reasons, I would be pleased to be part of an international family and would like to make the collaboration opportunities as a team member.
With my kindest regards,
Mutlu Gökay

I had the opportunity to study at the middle east technical university in ankara between 2008-2011. The university has provided me with a multicultural environment as well as bilingual courses in Turkish and English. Most of its staff are graduates of distinct american and European universities who keep themselves actively up to date. The campus is the most interesting piece of land in ankara providing students with dormitories and small shops and cafes. The university library owns a great variety of books ranging from science and philosophy to modern literature and technical magazines.
