I spent more on food in Spain because I ate out all the time. I dudn't use he telephone much because I had Internet access at school and where I stayed. Nightlife was so inexpensive in Spain, it was great! Overall though it was slighly more than what I would spend at home.

I spent more in Spain because it was Spain. My attitude was "when will I ever get the chance to come back here again?"

My best advice would be to SAVE your money. That was my problem. I did not know how to save. Once you go to the ATM and find out you have no money left and your only into a month of your study abroad then you have a problem. Don't waste your money on drinking or clubs or even shopping because your going to regret it at the end. Try to save your money to TRAVEL. Don't forget that France and Italy is literally right next door. Go there.

Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
I have participated in 2 other abroad experiences where I lived with families from the host country. I found that living in an apartment gave me the freedom to eat what I want, come and go as I please, and really have to provide for myself, which got me out in the community more.

My roommates and I LOVED our apt. We could not have gotten luckier. Amy is the director of housing at the university and she is beyond sweet! Our apartment was SO nice. I definitly recommend this type of living for someone who is used to being independent. For those not so independent living with a family is a better option because you don't have to worry about filling your basic needs in a foreign country i.e: the family does you laundry and cooks for you, if you are in an apt you are responsible for all of that. My other 2 trips I stayed with families and I will say it was nice to not think about cleaning, cooking, or washing clothes!

Anywhere in the Plaza de Santa Anna is a safe bet. Teh best restaurant in Madrid is Casa de PAco. Everyone has been to Capital, an excellent nightclub. But do not spend all your time in Madrid, the more you travel the better your experience.

Academic
Course recommendations
Let me put it this way, don't go to suffolk for extreme insights into classes. Once in a while you will find a professor that can connect your study abroad experience to studies but unfortunaley thats not the norm. Its not that the classes are useless, just not challenging (although I realise while studying abroad this can be an advantage).

Get more professors that work in the real world. The business professors were the exception to the norm and really made me feel I was gaining acedemically from the courses.
