Improved my spanish and learned a lot of catalan. People are very friendly and openminded so there's no problem to start a conversation anywhere.

Learning new languages is a wonderful thing to me. I would like to say, although the language of instruction and the language of the city are both catalan, a lot of people there speek spanish and you have no problems at all if you don't know catalan (only in some classes, nut they let you write your exams and your works in spanish). I didn't learn much catalan, but my spanish improved A LOT!

Due to the existence of the Catalan language in Barcelona, sometimes it could be annoying because one couldn't understand it.However it actually was of benefit because hearing the catalan language allows one to be able to learn a new language quite similar to spanish and french.Overall my experience in learning spanish could not have been better.

When I got to Barcelona, I already spoke spanish. Barcelona is a bilingual city - spanish and catalan. Most problems occur with catalan, but since everybody speaks spanish and classes were in spanish too, no problem at all. I can also follow a conversation in catalan, I understand almost everything, but I don't feel comfortable speaking.
