I wish I had known...
Housing, holydays (there are plenty of them),local character of people (some times they can be very rude and they are not that "costume oriented").

Housing
Type of housing: With a family
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
I would like to live with Spanish roommates around my age and thus immerse myself in the culture. Living with a family during my first visit to Spain was a good choice, but I would like to make Spanish friends.

I was happy with it, although it took some adjustment. I had expected to be treated as a family member, but it was more a business arrangement than anything; I was a boarder. I ended up becoming close with my host sister, and we're still in touch.

Rents are more expensive in the city centre, but you will be able to reach universities, supermarkets, in 10-15 min on foot. Outside city centre rents are lower but is not so easy to reach certain places. So my advice is to analyse carefully your needs in order to find the best place to stay

When I came here I could communicate pretty well but sometimes had difficulties to understand the local speakers when the spoke fast. It was even more complicated when it came to the professors during classes, because I couldn't ask them to repeat or speak slower. It wasn't a private class after all. That has gotten so much better though and now I can understand almost the entire class. My communicating skills have improved as well.
