Don't be afraid to travel as much as possible and meet as many people as possible. Never refuse an invitation from a local and treat everyone with respect; if you do this it looks good for not only you but also for your own home country

Course recommendations
Make sure you make every effort possible to meet the local students because you may not study with them, you may be in Spanish lectured classes with other students from your country. The local students are looking for student exchanges so that's an excellent way to make friends with the locals.

A little more access to professors. However, that depends mostly on the student. If you seek the professor he/she will be open for discussion.

Personal comments
I had studied Spanish in high school and college but was not sufficiently prepared to live in a Spanish-speaking country. When I arrived, I struggled for 3 months to understand people and muster the courage to speak. After that, it was much easier to learn the language and take the risk of speaking to people, despite making some mistakes. Taking classes in Spanish and living with Spaniards enabled me to become fluent in the language.
