Beacuse it allows one to meet exchange students from other countries, and by sharing a flat with them, to get to know more about their culture as well.

It is rather difficult to find a nice appartment that has not got a very high rent, and is near the cetntre. It may also happen that some of the owners of the flats will not be very fascinated by the fact that you come from a foreign country. Of course, not all are like that, but be prepared for very strange and also for very nice owners.

Also for those people who feel not comfortable with the language: You learn it in the country very easy. At the first month you might have some small difficulties with understanding but soon you will see that people try to help you as much as they can

The university has a good program to find appartments for incoming students and when presenting personally then they are also trying to find the right people for you.
