I had to buy a mobile phone because a fixed phone was to expensive. The expenses for Travel and Nightlife where higher because I wanted to experience more than I usually do at home.

If you want to go travelling and if you are under 25 you should buy the "carta verde", a ticket which allows you to get cheaper train tickets (reduction 20-30%)for one year.

Coimbra and Portugal have better nightlife than Pavia and Italy, but there are some nice places to go at Pavia, like Umbelico, Doblino and so on. We usually went also to parties organized by erasmus students.

Personal spending habits
In most of these fields Italy is more expoensive than Germany. Concerning travelling it is clear that people travel more when they are abroad because they want get to know the country better. A part from that, it is quite cheap to travell in Italy...cheap trains and student reductions (Carta Verde).
