Personal spending habits
I spent more than I normally would at home as we went travelling most weekends and took up the opportunities of STEP excursions and events on a weekly basis in order to meet other students and socialise. Plus Milan was only 20 minutes away! Need I say more!

The Italian burocracy is a nightmare - attempting to get the Permesso del Soggiorno in Pavia is a nightmare but be persistant and you'll get there in the end. One tip - go in a big group and try to get an appointment. it might take some persuasion but it'll pay off in the end as it'll save you hours or even days or queuing.

I really enjoyed learning italian. I just love the ability to communicate so learning another language was wonderfull. I had the opportunity to read a lot, go to theatre, movies... It felt really good broked the language barrier and finally felt tottaly integrated. I eaven had the opportunity to learn the different accents for each region.

Enjoy the year, take pavia for what it is; a small relatively quiet town where you can meet some incredibly friendly people for life. Respect the university, create a good social life and make use of nearby Milan.
