Costs for most things were cheaper than in Scotland in Mulhouse. Night life is very expensive though with people paying up to 8€ for a single drink in one of the few night clubs in the town.

It was hard to find contact with French students. They tended to want to keep to themselves and out of the 160 people in my halls of ressidence only 2 were French.

Speaking in French all the time might seem difficult at first, even if you're a French-language student like me, but it gets far easier as the year progresses!
I wish I had known what the place was like because I would not have gone if I had known. Mulhouse is not a suitable university for foreign students. It provides none of the necessary environments for meeting and mixing and I really considered a dangerous hostile surrounding (and thats my opinion having come from one year living and working in Chile, South America!)

There should be alot more effort made in the areas of security, facilities and social activities to help local and foreign students mix.

On my first night there I was sprayed with MACE, I was flashed by perverts too many times to count and on a regular basis I had strange guys knocking on my bedroom door during the night so me and the other Erasmus girls had to keep our mobile phones on all the time just to feel safe. 3 girls left during the year as a result of this unsafe environment.
Better coordinating for Erasmus students would be appreciated, it was hard to find out what the value of the courses were in terms of ECTS credit points.
