Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
Usually cheaper for foreign sutends that being on campus, and gives a real sense of the city.

A few issues: we had to sign a contract without seeing the flat. It was extremely hard to change location (some of the flats are way too far to be suitable), the organisation made it impossible to terminate the contract, which is illegal... And blackmailed the students of pushing the host university not to recognise their exams result if students wished to terminate the contract... I suppose this is not the way to do business, but again I escaped from this by getting my own flat! :)

Type of housing: Halls of residence that cooperate with University
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: A room
Why?
I suggest that one tries to find a room on his own. It will be cheaper than what the university arranges for you.

The university was very cooperative in finding me an appartment. I really enjoyed the place where I stayed because I had the opportunity to meet up with other students that also lived in the halls of residence I stayed. It was fully equipt and was also fairly spacious. The only drawback was the cost. I considered paying €410 per month expensive. But then again that may be only me I will let you be the judge of that!

I loved the people I spent my exchange semester with! We had so much fun together! We are still in touch and even see each other from time to time, although we all live in different countries! :))

As I pointed out above, the housing at Utrecht university was a bit too expensive for what they could offer us - the building, we were living in, was old and kind of left behind. We did clean and tried to make it as friendlier as it could be. Besides that small housing discomfort my semester in Utrecht was brilliant!

It was a wery well arranged accomodation, but at the beginning I stayed one month with a lady who had two cats, who gave me a very small room without armachairs where to put my stuff and, furthermore, she wanted to be my mum and she didn't allow me to go out every time I wanted. My second accomodation was the best, it was in the centre of the city, next to my university and my room was really big.

Although living on campus is a great way to meet people, living on campus is mainly with other international students. I would like to get out into 'society' and integrate with Dutch people.

I stayed at the UCU in Utrecht. It was a nice campus, a lot of green space, right in between the city center and the University. It was a nice way to meet people, but it was very expensive compared to other places within Utrecht.

Personally I was really lucky about acomodation getting a nice place to stay, near university and relative cheap as well. The negative thing was that I didn't apply for accomodation before leaving, and once there I had to wait for a month until get any accomodation.
