Its good to buy Museum Card - it costs about 15 euro but later on entry is free to most of the museums in the Netherlands. Its really worthy. Its better if u will find accomodation through your host university because otherwise it will be difficult to find a place. Amsterdam is very crowdy:)

Although I had already studied english language abroad, studying english and american literature at the University of Amsterdam was fundamental for my writing skills. We used to write up to four papers a week, and when I was back home I had no difficulties in writing my thesis.

Academic
Course recommendations
As you probably know as an exchange student you are entitled to choose any subjects on languages you speak at any faculties of the University. It is advisable though to ask the lecturer in advance and find out if there are any prerequisites, which you can find at the University Web site. All handbooks are available to buy at the faculty shops. Each subject has its own Web page connected to the University main Internet site. You will find there all information about your teachers, student group, home assignment; further readings as well as transparencies form the lectures if such are available.

go to Delft & Leiden. DON'T go to Rotterdam (unless you want to see a socialist city "modernized" a bit - STRANGE! & depressing)

I wish I had known...
I wish I had thought more about the negative aspects of a cultural adjustment, especially going into it completely alone. I am thankful for the emotional grwoth I have experienced, but which I had thought about it more beforehand.

Get independent housing if possible! And don't be afraid to take classes outside of your faculty.

Amsterdam is a cultural mecca and centrally located in Europe enough to make it a fantastic starting point for travels. I have loved every minute of my stay here and would encourage anyone interested to come.
