I stayed at a friend's parents', which was great, they really opened their family to me and made me feel like another member.
in a new country/city, while you are absolutely new to people and culture, university campus is the safest place that ever come to my mind

pretty nice, they have several residences, which are quite different. The one that is solely for undergrads - such a mess! :) no possibility to study whatsoever, but funny.
Si j'y retournais je choisirais: Appartement/maison

I stayed with 4 Canadian people at my age, had therefore a great chance to get to know Canadian culture.

All the housing facilities where great, and living on campus was a rewarding experience. also being close to the place of study is cost and time efficient.
