Difference between American and British english shouldn't be underestimated, especially if you spend a lot of time with locals who use a lot of slang and informal language.

plenty situations to improve language ability, but sometimes just not enough time to pay attention to mistakes - everybody understands anyways. So, to have the language perfect, you need to plan to learn it, it doesn't come itself even when you can hear native speakers 24/7
