In comparison to Germany, UK housing/ renting prices are a lot higher. However, Colchester renting prices are cheap in comparison to the rest of the UK. On top of that, it's the currency (euro-pound) that makes the whole thing a little mote expensive than at home.

The university is looking up on you

Overall
The University of Essex is a great place to study because it provides the students everything they need. The campus is placed in the Wivenhoe park, fact that makes the futuristic design of the building meet the nature. It may seem inconvenient that the campus is not placed in the centre of the city, but they provide everything, including accommodation and stores. The staff and the professors are ones of the best, and they will always answer any of your questions and help you if needed. The University of Essex provides a wide variety of courses and modules. There is nothing you cannot find, and the high value information is delivered in a great manner by the most skilled professors.

Course recommendations
Use the website to get a broader picture and more detailed information. The course directory has detailed module information and links to other useful resources, such as previous reading lists (which are generally very similar each year). You can get a really good idea of what to expect from your course and modules by doing this research, which helps you to make decisions and avoid the hassle of changing courses or modules once you've started.

Personal comments
Sometimes the communication between lecturers and administrators within departments seems slightly lacking, causing confusion over classrooms, lecture times and assignments. Use your inititative and always check and double-check info from all sources.

Housing
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why?
It is a compact campus, so campus accommodation ensures that you are able to get to the lecture halls within 5 min. On top of that, you save a lot of time (inbetween library, gym, home)when you living on campus.

I was there for half a year and lived in one of the Towers on campus. It looks quite daunting from the outside and the fact that you are suppose to live in a flat with 13 people (14 incl. you) doesn't help either. But once I got there, I had 13 friends straight away and the best time. The kitchen is a big communal area. If you feel a bit bored, there's always someone in there who you can talk to. The kitchen is cleaned every day and so is the bathroom.

Usually we went to have a beer and playing some pool in one of the two pubs that were located inside the campus;in the week-end we went to dance or in the disco inside the campus or in a big one in Colchester. While on sunday evening the university organised movies. What I liked most was that the campus was inside a wonderful park, so you can make long walks as well as play many sports in the open air. Colchester is also one hour from London and in different occasions I went for the week-end or just for a daily visit. About Colchester, it is a lovely town where the main attraction is its castle of roman origins and which is located inside a nice green area.
