Housing
Type of housing: With a family
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: With a family
Why?
Staying with a family is a risky matter as you don't really know them until you get there. This is a common thought many people have when it comes to choosing their accomodation abroad. So far, I've never been unlucky. My family was so overwhelmingly friendly and cared a lot about me which made my stay un unforgettable experience. I would immediately do it again. The advantages of this sort of accomodations always outweighs the disadvantages: You get a real insight of life in another country and really get the feeling of beonging to your new place instead of just being a "foreigner".

The Uni doesn't have a close on-campus student friendship fostering feel the way it does in Texas... I hung out with other international students I met through my exchange program and locals i met in class.

Oxford Street has plenty of amazing clubs with the latest house music and the cafes in Sydney are unbeatable. Just walk down oxford street, visit Betsy's Soup Kitchen, Tiny Box (Thai Food), or the Stone Wall for individuals with a truly open mind. Home was a really nice club located on Darling Harbour. There is so much to do. You won't be bored. Also if planning to travel make sure you don't miss Cape Tribulation and the Daintree Rainforest.

Darling Harbour was always a great place to go to for a night out, as well as George Street in the CBD. I lived at Coogee Beach so my favorite local spot was the Coogee Bay Hotel. The Mardi Gras parade down Oxford Street is a must see in March. Sydney offers so many great cafes and Thai restaurants, Coogee Bay Road had a great selection as well as the main streetw in Glebe and Newtown. The markets in Sydney on the weekends are also fantastic.

Academic
Course recommendations
Take international business at the main campus; it was a really great course with a phenomenal lecturer. Australian sociology was a trip... liberal arts courses in Australia are taught very differently in Oz compared to the states. I took a couple of classes at the college of fine arts (a different campus) -- they were awesome. I highly recommend taking an arts course or two there.
