I wish I had known...
No. International relations at the university provided us with most of the information that students need.

Be prepared for the weather and for a long and dark winter. The studies are the priority but if you manage travel as much as you can. Do not get close to people from your home country, open your mind and get into the international environment from the beginning. Try to meet Finnish people, you will get very close and honest friends. If possible, get housing close to other Erasmus, it will help you to socialize.

Severely deficient in communicating with its prospective students
Anis B
Australia, Graduate
, 2021
Overall
Holding a bachelor's and two masters' in three different countries, I have dealt with many universities in my life, and I can say this university can't even meet the bare minimum of providing adequate support to its incoming students, particularly international! I've been offered admission, but I am yet to get hold of them to clarify a few essential points and discuss the next steps! The university fails big time to communicate with its incoming students. I keep sending them emails and calling them, but there is hardly any reply. Simply nobody answers the phone or emails at this university. The only time I could get through to someone on the phone, the conversation was very awkward. I asked the lady if I could speak to admissions/study affairs, and she couldn't understand a word of what I was saying. Every time I asked her a question, her reply was: "No, this is the University of Oulu"!!!!!! Unfortunately, I haven't been able to take my offer a step further as I needed critical information regarding enrollment that I couldn't get. Needless to say, I have decided to enroll somewhere else.

Pros
None, since the only experience I have with the university is as an offer holder
Cons
Terrible lack of communication and help for incoming international students

Housing
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why?
I had everything I needed in the on-campus apartment, and it was near to the university and all the other exchange students.

Personal comments
The buildings were well-located and included a sauna and laundry room. There was also a large gathering room (one room for four 8-floor buildings) with a TV and a kitchen. The only thing lacking was a small gathering room in each building--there were often people gathered on the stairs to chat, and that was rather uncomfortable and impersonal.

Well, the administration is really efficient, they provide you the access of the university, a housing, and a "Kummi" who will pick you up at the airport to your flat, and this kummi will help you during your stay... So really you just have to sign ,pack your stuff and the rest is waiting for you
