University of Stirling has a wonderful program for broadcast students in Britain. Great experience for a person of different culture to learn more about communications/media in a different country. The teacher to student ratio was much better than my large home university.

Pick a university that has courses you are studying. Don't overload yourself as you will want to travel but try to gain as much from the university as you can. Don't take a huge suitcase..you will not need as much as you think. And once you are over there- travel. See and experience as much as you can, from local culture to the countries close by.

“Pretty good uni”

Overall
The course I am doing, applied computing, is a very good course because it is done in partnership with Forth Valley College. The college has Oracle certification and provides Oracle approved training in Java and mySQL. After finishing the studies in Forth Valley College, students gain the title of Junior Programmer, which is a very useful thing going forward.
The campus of the university is great, it is very beautiful. The university buildings are close to each other and are easy to find.
The labs however are not as good as the Forth Valley ones, due to the equipment being older and not having a secondary screen.
Teachers are very nice and helpful though, and if any issues arise they can help anyone.

I wish I had known...
I would have liked to know more about Scotland and Scottish people. Not only that they speak differently and it took me a good three weeks to get used to their accent but it would have been good to know more about what places in Scotland are more interesting than others.

If you can, hire a car and spend a weekend or a week travelling around Stirling.

Just wished I had saved some more money for travelling. I really didn't realize how expensive it was until I was confronted with it.

I really had a good time at Stirling. But I was looking for a small town that was more secluded. The campus is beautiful, and, if you want, Edinburgh and Glasgow are easily accessible by bus and train. Plus, as I already stated, I loved my English classes. The faculty in that department deserves the high marks it gets in the ratings. Plus, there are a lot of Scots here so if you are looking to experience their culture rather than that of England's then Stirling is the place to be.

Fly into Prestwick cause there is a rail connection between there and Stirling. There is none to Glasgow International. For backpacking around Scotland, Macbackpackers is a great company as well as Stray Travel. That's how I did it.

Nothing particular. I expected to be a bit disoriented at first anyway, but I didn't have any bad surprise.

I think the university of Stirling (at least concerning the course I followed: MSc in Public Relations) was a serious one, and I was not disappointed by the quality of the lectures. I do not know about the other departments and courses in that university. It is always a bit strange to be confronted with different teaching methods than those we foreigners have been used to in our home countries, but it is a worthful challenge anyway to try to cope with it.

I encourage people to go to Stirling university if they think the course they want to apply to is well-taught there.
There are always moments when you are overwhelmed with work, or a bit depressed because of the Scottish weather or because your flatmate never cleans the kitchen, etc, but everybody is in the same situation. You can make great friends, you can enjoy your time there and discover other people's cultures. It is definitely a worthy experience.

“Emancipating period of my life.”

Overall
You get to understand where the laws you apply in your home country originate from. There is a better understanding of how to think and apply the laws in another legal system.
The courses are diverse and give you the opportunity to study courses you did not have the opportunity to do so in your home university.
In addition, you get to meet new people and improve your communication skills with strangers and possible customers.

Pros
You realise if you really want to pursue your career you thought you liked.
Cons
You might not be ready to live alone for the first period of your studies.
