I wish I had known...
the university did not make it perfectly clear that it would be impossible to get a job once completing TEFL certification without working papers. they also did not clarify how very very very difficult it is to obtain the right to work in france.

read up on the country you plan on studying in to know basic customs, currency, etc. even basic things like what kind of plug adaptor to bring to be able to plug in electric appliances - this is all helpful to know ahead of time.

Well according to my language and communication experience in the university it was no problem since it was in English and I am fluent in it. However, the host country language and communication experience was the challenge as I have had a fair knowledge of the French language before going but due the regular interaction with the people there i think i have gained a lot of knowledge and my language skills have developed pretty well.

Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
The only problem with my apartment was that it was tiny and in a very quiet quarter without many amenities, although it was only a ten minute walk from the school.

Personal comments
The housing people were extremely helpful, but before going to Paris I would do a little research on the type of neighborhood you would like to live in. They aren't all student friendly, i.e. with cafes, internet, grocery, laundry, bars.

For Americans, be aware that it is a totally different culture and we should be aware that it is not as easy here as in the US. Be open to experiencing new and different things.

It is a very good university, however I think they should give more variety for their summer session courses.

*have students ID with you, helps for god discounts. * Buy the Paris Time out magazine, has all the fun stuff. * Buy the carte orange for the metro. * try to have accomodation as close to the center as possible in order to pay less for taxis at night as the metro closes at 1 am. * Wake up at 7 one morning and go buy a nice warm baguette and pain de chocolat :) * HAVE AS MUCH FUN AS YOU POSSBLY CAN!

Bring a lot of money and don't spend it foolishly. Paris housing is a lot smaller compared to American standards.
