Jacobs experience really bad these days
Meherit T
Germany, Undergraduate
, 2021
Overall
Jacobs generally provides scholarships to students but in the name of HEFTY LOANS.  The professors in CS here are the worst, non supportive and arrogant people. The management in Jacobs is totally useless. The housing department charges huge sums to students as fines for little things in their rooms, to take profits out of students. All the nice professors have left till date, and the new hired professors have zero to very less teaching experience, and provide no learning experience during classes. They only either read through the slides, or just give some vague statements about different topics rather than discussion fostered learning. Practical aspects? zero, all of them are focused on grades and they are very strict in grading while being shitty at teaching at the same time. Research opportunities? None to minimal. You either have to be their favorite TAs to work for your thesis with the professors, or have to have super good grades (which is rare for CS students here in average), so most CS students end up with nothing in hand here.
Jacobs forces students on campus to stay in the meal plan (servery) by contract, so that they can charge large sums for the bad food they provide.

In short, sure Jacobs may provide good financial options, but beware if it i mostly loans and not grants. It's their money making scheme. Apart that, in Germany the working environment is good especially for majors like CS, IEM, IMS etc. Work students earn around 10-13 per hour and can work upto 20 hours per week during the semester.
Other life science majors like EES, BCCB, Physics etc are at good withstanding in Jacobs with good research opportunities, but if you are looking at Jacobs for Mobility majors like CS, IMS, it's better not to come here. The loans are not worth it.
A study abroad experience in germany is definitely recommended, but in Jacobs? not much you can decide for yourself.
