“Tampere University of Technology”

Overall
Tampere University of Technology (TUT) is one of the most appreciated technological universities in Finland. TUT does a lot of co-operation with companies and students get to work with these companies and solve real cases during courses. This helps understanding the problems in hand and also creating contacts outside the university. You might also find your future job through one of these case courses. Some courses require more effort than others but that's probably the case in any university.
Tampere is a very good city for students to live. There are three university level schools in Tampere so there are a lot of students and many places that offer student discounts, for example. Also, there is a great student atmosphere in the city with a lot of student events arranged by clubs or universities. You can also live very close to campus with a reasonable rent.

Personal recommendation
The exchange students of Tampere University of Technology are mainly French and Spanish, when Italian and German. The majority of the University of Tampere are German. So if you are German speaking and you want have a real international experience go to the TUT, for French and Spanish it is vice versa. In overall Tampere is a good town to live.

Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
advantage of having some privacy while living ate the same time living with other people in one appartment and it is very hard to find a flat on your own with just a small knowledge of Finnish,

the local housing organisation TOAS does very thorough work, the registration is easy and self-explaining, their are normally all facilities you need and the appartment blocks have even their own homepages and events, they are close to the university, if the students applies early enough, on the other hand: the landlords normally don't speak English

No. We were very well informed, either by the university, either by the students union.

I had the opportunity to grow up as a student as well as a person. The intercultural exchange is worth it. I learn a lot of things from other cultures. Do not loose an opportunity like this.

Student life
Describe host city:
Students equally interact with the local and student community

Activities: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment
Travel, Nightlife: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment
Personal social experience
Personal comments
The night life in Hervanta, the place where the University of Technology is located is mainly made in the accomodations of foreign students (where are allegedly more exchange students students in Tampere when anywhere else in Finland). It is also the location of the notorious bar "Atlantis".
In the city centre very popular clubs and bars are Onnella (mainstream music), Sokeri (Black music) and Doris (Rock), as well as Cafe Europe and O'Connell's.
From Tampere you can of course travel to Helsinki and Turku, but if you look for cosy towns you should travel to Lappeenranta and Oulu. Also you shouldn't miss Stockholm, Estonia (and the other little Estonian towns), Riga and of course Russia (St. Petersburg).

I am greatly satisfied with this university, the academical aspects are very well taken care of, and international students are also very well treated. Working conditions are very good.

Beware those who are afraid of the cold... we had up to -25C for a week... but it is part of the experience!
Other than that, just bring some open mentality and everything should be fine!
