telephoning over the internet with skype is much cheaper, nightlife costs less than in austria or other european countries except in the bigger cities like ny, chicago or miami; travelling is cheap (flight) but the food and the hotels cost more than at home (except motels-not to recommand)

reservation for flights or trips only via internet (e.g. expedia), good tip is to have an american credit card (much cheaper to book on the american homepages than on the german or austrian ones) e.g. expedia.com versus expedia.de
